Syrian Revolution: Trump & Putin Cut a Deal to Deescalate WWIII

- A Radical Dispatch

1) A New Syria

After 54 years of ruling Syria with an iron fist the Assad dynasty is overthrown. A new Syria is now possible. US and NATO-backed Syrian Sunni jihadists from the group Hay’at al-Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) led by Ahmed al-Shar’a, aka Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, have been handed the keys to Damascus as its new rulers.

Al-Jolani was once the leader of al-Qaeda in Syria, which he disavowed in 2016 to form the broader Turkish-backed HTS umbrella group. This is alarming and there clearly remain many issues of grave concern, but this Radical Dispatch explains how what transpired in Syria last week is part of a broader regional peace plan that had been agreed years in advance between Putin, Trump and a wider coalition of states.

As in Afghanistan - between the Taliban and the Pentagon via Qatar - when armies are seen rapidly withdrawing without a fight it is highly likely they know that their countries have cut a deal. As we stated in last week’s Radical Dispatch, a grand regional settlement led by Trump is already on the table. Russia has been promised a quid pro quo deal in Ukraine in return for acquiescing to a deal in Syria.

Radical Media reports 5th December 2024:

“The truth is that most of the world is essentially exhausted fighting these proxy wars. A grand regional settlement is inevitable. These latest moves in Syria are more likely to be the death-throes of various players who are jostling for position before President Trump brings an end to these conflicts.”

This explains why not only did Iranian troops withdraw from Syria without so much as a fight:

The Telegraph reports 7th December 2024:

But also why Russia’s armed forces did the same, from Syria as well as from the Crimea in Ukraine:

Newsweek reports 4th December 2024:

Newsweek reports 4th December 2024:

Russia is moving vessels from its naval base in Syria amid the escalating insurgency against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, it has been reported, after Moscow is said to have shifted much of its Black Sea Fleet from its hub in Crimea earlier this year. The Syrian port of Tartus has been a key hub for Russian vessels for more than five decades and has grown in importance since the start of Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, giving Moscow a Mediterranean presence and bulwark against NATO.

In fact, even Assad’s own Syrian Arab Army (SAA) retreated from most major Syrian cities without putting up any resistance:

And it was revealed that Assad’s own Syrian Prime Minister had been engaged in secret talks with HTS for days behind Assad’s back, even going so far as to meet with HTS after the rebel takeover of Damascus in order to facilitate a smooth handover of the state apparatus.

These events very clearly point to a deal that has been struck between Putin and Trump over Syria and Ukraine, which Trump himself has effectively expressed via his own socials.

Turkey’s broader involvement and backing of the rebel incursion into Syria had already been green lit by President Trump himself.

The Times reports 10th December 2024:

The Times reports 10th December 2024:

Trump did not mention, however, the US troops that remained in the east of the country. Nor the fact that it was he who decided to leave a contingent in Syria despite withdrawing from the northern region at the behest of President Erdogan — allowing Turkish troops to go after Kurdish forces in the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)About 900 US troops are believed to be in eastern Syria today to tackle Iranian or Islamic State activity and Trump may once again be tempted to bring them home in line with his pledge to end ‘forever wars’…But in reality this depends on whether Isis, Iran or Russia seek to regroup under whatever regime emerges in Damascus. Trump is unlikely to want any of them grabbing the oil or rebuilding powerbases that threaten his greater ambitions — he dreams of declaring peace in the Middle East.

Strengthening our view that Damascus was being handed over by international agreement to the NATO-allied Syrian rebels, so that Putin in return could settle the Ukraine war in his favour, is the fact that Trump was in Paris meeting Ukraine’s Zelensky as all of this was unfolding.

Sky News reports 7th December 2024:

Sky News Broadcaster: “We are now taking you live to Paris, where President Zelensky is arriving at the Elysee Palace, where Donald Trump and President Macron have been meeting. You can see him there in his signature green styles. And of course, we reported earlier on that breaking news that President Zelensky was due to meet with President Macron and President-elect Donald Trump for a trilateral meeting. President-elect Donald Trump, of course, saying that he's friends with both Ukraine and Russia and wants to see an end to the war in Ukraine. So quite interesting there that President Zelensky has now arrived this afternoon for a meeting with President Macron and President-elect Donald Trump. Donald Trump's first major appearance on the world stage, of course, since his election, to be the next president of the United States.

Subsequently, Trump announced publicly that Ukraine is ready to make a deal with Russia to end the war.

The Times reports 8th December 2024:

The Times reports 8th December 2024:

Zelensky and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. ‘They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians. There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin’.”

The Russian’s themselves have explicitly said that Ukraine is more important to them than Syria.

The Times reports 10th December 2024:

The Times reports 10th December 2024:

More than Syria “For us the priority is Russia’s own security — what is happening in the zone of the special military operation [in Ukraine],” Dmitry Kiselyov told viewers of his current affairs show.

This also explains why the Syrian embassy in Russia wasted no time in replacing the old regime flag with the new rebel flag, while not changing a single member of staff.

Considering this broader agreement, it is therefore no surprise that the Assad family were granted asylum in Moscow after fleeing the country.

After last week’s Radical Dispatch explained as much, the former head of Britain’s Mi6 has also since confirmed that a land for peace deal was struck between Trump and Putin.

Sky News reports 7th December 2024:

Click to play:

Former Head of Mi6, Alex Younger: “It's going to be land for peace. Trump is a real estate guy. That's how he thinks about the world.”

Broadcaster: “I'm dying to hear your perspective on Ukraine. Where is this going? Zelensky just laid out his plan, speaking to Sky News, and said, oh, we can end this war or the hot phase of it, as long as there's NATO membership, do you think that's possible?”

Former Head of Mi6, Alex Younger: “I think this is very much as I expected that we're kind of moving into the political phase of this conflict. We've got a choice. We either double down on support for Zelensky or we do a deal. We're not going to double down on support for Zelensky. There's going to be a deal. It's going to be land for peace. Trump is a real estate guy. That's how he thinks about the world. But that belies the reality of what Putin's trying to achieve here. It's not about territory. It's never been about territory. And he was super clear. It was Ukraine's existence as an independent country that he felt posed an intolerable threat to Russia. It's that that he seeks to eliminate. And specifically now, he's visited this huge sacrifice on his people. He's got to come home with something that looks like that. So Putin is going for Ukraine to be a non-country. So I think we've got to accept there's going to be a frozen conflict, a land swap, whatever, however you like to call it. I don't think NATO is going to happen. Is Donald Trump or even the Germans going to allow that to happen? No.

As is explicitly stated above, and though the Russians lost Syria, they will be granted what they demanded in Ukraine. Ukraine will be split, and it will not be joining NATO.

This is precisely what we forecasted would happen as the outcome of this useless war as far back as 2022.

Radical Dispatch reports 2nd March 2022:

“..it is now possible to see what Russia’s interests are in Ukraine, and how to bring this conflict to an end without provoking World War III. The assumption here is that readers do wish to avoid Armageddon..this will likely end with Ukraine being split into two. Putin will probably maintain control East of the Dneiper river, and insist on a return to a neutral regime West of the river. That is, unless certain rabid Western politicians get their way and manage to spark a nuclear catastrophe.

It is therefore no surprise that the UK, US and other Western countries are considering removing HTS from their terrororist designation lists.

The BBC reports 9th December 2024:

Cabinet minister Pat McFadden earlier told the BBC that the UK could remove HTS from the list…Separately, Foreign Secretary David Lammy told the Commons that the UK ‘will judge HTS by their actions, monitoring closely how they and other parties to this conflict treat all civilians in areas they control’.

And just as the US then negotiated with the Taliban for a handover of power via Qatar, that same Qatar is now involved in negotiations with the new Syrian government led by HTS.

The Times reports 10th December 2024:

All of this points to the fact that what we are witnessing in not only the Middle East but the wider world, is a grand regional settlement for peace to wind down the many proxy wars between the great powers. Last week‘s Radical Dispatch went into some detail in this regard.

Radical Media reports 5th December 2024, extract:

This author stated as much back in 2021, long before the October 7th attacks scuppered the brief hope that arose for a regional peace in the form of the Abraham Accords.

Click to play:

Maajid Nawaz: “This is a regional problem, with proxy terrorist militia operating regionally, operating across these borders from Lebanon into Syria to squash the uprising there, the same Hezbollah that to Israel's north is standing ready in case there's a regional conflict…So as a result, there can be no lasting solution to this until we solve that regional riddle... this is your hand. If you're trying to understand the region, this is the hand you've been dealt with. This is the mosaic of complications involved. So if you understand it like this, you realise there can be no separate peace with Hamas or Hezbollah if they're controlled by Iran and with Islamic Jihad if they're controlled by Assad in Syria. Which means that, in fact, the real conversations need to be happening between Israel, Syria, Iran, Lebanon, and now I'm gonna bring in Egypt. Why? Because Gaza shares a border with Egypt and the blockade is enforced against Gaza, not just by Israel, but also by Egypt.

So what we really need is Israel, Egypt, Iran, and Syria, and finally, I'll add Saudi Arabia, without which pretty much not much can happen in the Middle East, to be having these multilateral discussions led by President Biden in the United States. And ultimately, yes, in that context, Israel should talk to Hamas. It won’t make any sense in talking to Hamas when you understand they key players here, are bigger than Hamas.

Considering that hopes for peace rest on the success of this grand settlement, it becomes necessary to ensure that the future government of Syria stabilises. Though it would be naive to ignore that clearly many concerns remain. So far HTS have been offering some comforting gestures.

On that note, here is some footage of a reported amnesty being provided by HTS Sunni jihadist fighters to Syrian Army soldiers.

HTS has even indicated that they will choose a market approach to economics.

There are of course, pockets of violence that remain an issue as HTS have not centralised the country. As last week’s Radical Dispatch elaborated, after Syria’s civil war the country had been governed by four distinct administrations.

The Times reports 1st December 2024:

Syria was divided into four. The regime in the major cities of Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Hama and Deraa; the Turkish-backed rebels in the north; the jihadists of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), by now divorced from al-Qaeda, in the northwest; and the SDF running the eastern cities of Raqqa, Qamishli and Hasakah — the latter two with a Kurdish ethnic majority.

Turkey & her SNA allies, the US & their SDF allies and Jolani’s HTS must quickly reign in the thuggery & butchery currently unfolding between the SNA & SDF factions in the East. Exactly as they sought to do in Afghanistan, ISIS will seek to capitalise on the chaos and would benefit from prison-breaking thousands of their prisoners held in the two ISIS camps, many of whom are women and children, to undermine the new Syrian Transitional Government.

Critical commentators will not hesitate to report on the instability and chaos.

(Note: above user’s account is now deleted)

To some extent though, a lack of control over all the country in the days following a total collapse of that country’s regime is somewhat inevitable. Many families have lost loved ones, some multiple loved ones, to disappearances and torture. With the Assad regime out of the way, they are demanding justice.

So far, reports indicate that HTS is seeking to calm these violent flare ups.

Al-Jolani has evidently been busy meeting with various factions to unify and reconcile the country.

Overall, and much to the disappointment of the Assadists, there is little likelihood that these pockets of admittedly serious trouble will degenerate into a new civil war.

Regardless, globalist US Secretary of State Blinken has stated what the US position is likely to remain as, recognition will come in return for securing credible stability.

This is why hyperventilating online about admittedly serious but not country-wide problems is not likely to be helpful, except to those who seek to undo this regional part of the wider grand peace settlement.

As we stated last week, a grand regional settlement is, in fact, inevitable. Not least because - as the rise of populism across the West highlights - Western nations have entirely politically exhausted their hospitality and ability to host more war torn refugee influxes from Sunni Muslim-majority countries.

The Times reports 10th December 2024:

(UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy) warned: ‘Assad’s demise brings no guarantee of peace. This is a moment of danger as well as opportunity for Syrians and for the region. The humanitarian situation in Syria is dire, with almost 17 million people in need. Millions are refugees, largely still in neighbouring Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan’.

It is now recognised where it matters most that the best way to solve the global refugee crisis is to stabilise their home countries. Syria here serves as a case in point.

Only genuinely popular uprisings, where the People are returned to power in order to determined their own destiny, are able to attract such migrants flows. And the revolution in Syria appears to be just that.

Much of how we read the situation days before the collapse of Assad has turned out as expected.

As all of this is much, much bigger than the Assads, the Iranian clerics, the Netanyahus, the Trumps, the Xis or the Putins.

It is our view that this Gutenberg press moment of unprecedented global awakenings and mass upheavals will not stop at Syria.

For though Syria is but the latest case, these coming Peoples’ liberations around the world did not start with Syria and they will not end with Syria.

Below, in section 2 we move to the duplicity of the International Left with regards to Syria. In section 3 we highlight Assad’s brutal torture dungeons and in section 4 we focus on Israel’s designs on Syria. Finally, in section 5 we present video of Sir Geoffrey Nice KC’s full speech at the UK House of Commons in defence of the Uyghur nation who face genocide by China in East Turkistan. Read on...
